DO SOMETHING GOOD TODAY!!!! Support a trip to DC for deserving Native American students.

Colleagues of mine on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in northeastern Montana are trying to raise $7,500 to support bringing 3 youth leaders and two educators to Washington, DC January 31 and February 4, 2016 for the National Johnson O’Malley Conference.

These are Sioux and Assiniboine people affiliated with a wonderful native language program. There are fewer than 60 fluent speakers on the reservation (population 13,000). Enabling the youth who have chosen to dedicate themselves to language mastery is a real matter of cultural survival.

As a characteristic of their Tatanka Oyate/Tatanga Oyade (Buffalo People) the group will sing a prayer song on behalf of Fort Peck Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes. The students will introduce themselves in our Dakota and Nakoda Languages and in return bring honor to the Fort Peck Tribe and the families they represent.  The group strives to embrace the spirit of the buffalo as they provide opportunities for Native students to expand their horizons.

You can help support their travel costs of $7,500 by making a donation to:
